Vladimir Voronin informs Parliament about his resignation

Vladimir Voronin informed the legislative body about his decision to resign as President of Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the presidential press service. The official announcement was preceded by a speech addressed to the people, in which Vladimir Voronin thanked them for support and promised he would yet return to power. On Friday morning, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat said that Vladimir Voronin has the right to choose how to announce his resignation – in written or oral form. Marian Lupu, the leader of the Democratic Party, said that he is not jurist and does not know how Voronin must act. “I think that everything should be done in accordance with the procedural and legal norms. We should consult the legislation to see if violations are being committed,” he said. Under the law, Vladimir Voronin, who is also an MP in the eighteenth Parliament, must choose one of the posts by September 14. He has earlier declared that in difficult times for the country and the party he prefers to become MP and be near his party.
