Everything is ready to sign the fundamental documents to solve the Transnistrian conflict, as the tergiversation of the settlement now being suitable for the Tiraspol; administration only. Such a statement was made on June 27 by President Vladimir Voronin, in a TV broadcast. He renewed his optimism and hopes linked to Russia's role in settling the issue, uttering high appreciations for the new Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Moldovan President says the package of documents to lie at the basis of the Transnistrian settlement is ready to be set on the negotiations table. It contains the draft law on the status of Transnistria, the Law on the basic principles of the status of the districts on the left bank of the Nistru, passed in 2005 and international guarantees concerning Moldova's neutrality status. According to the President, there are already good signals from mediators and observers concerning those drafts. “Unfortunately, we don't have yet a response from Russia in this respect,” the President remarked. Vladimir Voronin also maintained that solving the conflict with Russia's involvement would be “an ideal anti-Kosovo variant, a peaceful one.” According to the President, Dmitri Medvedev has a strong will to solve this problem, he shows an optimistic attitude and profound interest, being very well informed on the Transnistrian topic. The head of the state remarks that, if needed, he may attend a possible trilateral reunion with Dmitry Medvedev and Igor Smirnov. “I'm ready to sit at the negotiations table, provided there results,” he said. The President says intense communication is under way with Russia, but also with the EU, the USA, Ukraine and the OSCE, underlining the importance of the EU and the USA in the settlement process. At the same time, the President excluded the possibility of solving the issue in another format than 5+2 or of signing a document similar to the Kozak memo.
