The leader of the Communists Party Vladimir Voronin says his son Oleg could not have spent US$8 million during only 16 months. The former President of Moldova is convinced that if he had abandoned politics when his term in office as head of state expired, his son wouldn't have been summoned for questioning. “Mircea Snegur's children Natalita and Artur and Petru Lucinski's sons had been also investigated and suspected of dubious business practices. Nothing was proved. There were only rumors and fuss,” Vladimir Voronin said in a news conference on March 11, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The present government has a culture of persecuting people. How can one spend US$8 million is such a short period of time?” Voronin asked the journalists. The Anticorruption Center took legal action over money laundering and fiscal evasion after establishing that during the last two years Olge Voronin's bank card was used to pay for goods and services to the value of over 66 million lei abroad. His income statement indicates a much lower amount. Oleg Voronin is not yet a suspect in this case and has not been charged. He was only called to the Center to explain from what sources he replenished his bank card.
