Vladimir Voronin: Communist government contributed essentially to better living standards in Moldova
The Communist government contributed fundamentally to the improvement of the living conditions in Moldova, the departing president Vladimir Voronin said when the Greceanyi Government II tendered its resignation, Info-Prim Neo reports. The head of state specified he refers not only to the results achieved by the governmental team invested in March 2008 and reconfirmed in June this year, but to all the eight years during which the PCRM governed.
Vladimir Voronin said that since 2001 until present, the life expectancy rose by about 12 years to over 70 years after implementing the obligatory health insurance system. Special attention was paid to primary medicine, the president stressed. In 2009 for example, there will be opened 15 renovated primary medical assistance centers. Other centers are being modernized. It is important to develop now the health sector so that the people do not go abroad for a special treatment or for a surgery and pay large sums of money, the head of state said.
The president also highlighted the achievements in the education sector. One of them is that the state finances now the studies of about 70% of the students. Vladimir Voronin stressed the necessity of improving the qualification of the teachers and the quality of education, which, according to him, must meet the modern standards. After graduation, the young people cannot find employment and be certified by European companies and institutions owing to the ‘rupture’ between the outdated theory and the modernized practice, the president said.
Vladimir Voronin praised the measures taken to improve the demographic situation in the country and to reduce child mortality. He stressed that 680 children involved in different adoption schemes abroad were repatriated.
The head of state said that the decision to issue passports to newborns was an important one. When the newborns leave the maternity hospital, they are already citizens of Moldova. He also spoke about the childcare residential institutions, boarding schools and the 180 rural asylums where the lonely old persons can have a meal and take a bath and benefit from medical care, while in the evening go home where they have a puppy, a kitten or a bird,” Vladimir Voronin said.
In his speech, the head of state also said that during eight years there were built 10,000 km of gas pipeline, 500 km of aqueduct and repaired about 400 km of road, 856 schools, 494 kindergartens, 68 homes of culture and many churches.
The Greceanyi Government resigned on August 26 as its term in office expired.
