“During a year, the Government managed to carry out practically all the plans,” President Vladimir Voronin said Tuesday at the last meeting of the Government, Info-Prim Neo reports. The head of state said that the present executive showed it is capable of coping with the difficulties, making conscious decisions and working actively with determination. Vladimir Voronin stressed that the GDP growth last year was over 7%, while the rate of inflation – lower than 7%. All the state programs were continued. The high gasification level was maintained. The 1,000th Moldovan settlement was recently connected to the natural gas pipeline. Water supply systems were created in several settlements. The planned road sections were repaired. The average salary rose by 22%, the head of state said. He also emphasized the importance of opening the Giurgiulesti International Port and building access railways to it, needed to ensure the smooth running of the port. Vladimir Voronin said that the Moldova-EU Plan of Action was fulfilled. Moldova held the presidency of the CIS bodies and cooperated closely with international and regional organizations. According to Voronin, 2009 is expected to be difficult and considerable effort is to be made to maintain the macroeconomic stability. Courage, firmness, creativity and unordinary solutions will be needed for the purpose. The major task of the Government is to maintain and increase the employment rate and strictly fulfill the social obligations of the state, the President said.
