The expected signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union in June is not in accordance with the national interests, the leader of the Communist Party (PCRM) Vladimir Voronin said in the program “Moldova Live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1.
Harshly criticizing the planned signing of the Association Agreement with the EU and underlining the necessity of joining the Customs Union, the Communist leader said yet that European standards should be introduced for the Moldovan goods. He considers that the relations between Moldova and the EU should be developed within the EU – CIS relationship.
Vladimir Voronin also criticized the current administration of Moldova, accusing the West of interfering in the internal affairs of the country. “The appearance of clones of the ruling parties and of the PCRM is the result of the effort made by those who are in power. They were helped by the West to hinder the PCRM from coming to power. When the Liberal-Reformists appeared, Mihai Ghimpu expressed his indignation, but was then called to Bucharest and told to keep silent,” he stated.
The leader of the PCRM accused the Moldovan administration and the West of staging the April 7, 2009 protests that represented the beginning of a ‘maidan’. He stated that if he had been now in power, he wouldn’t have recognized the current administration of Ukraine.
Vladimir Voronin expressed his conviction that the PCRM will win this autumn’s elections and will obtain a majority of seats in Parliament, but said he is afraid that the elections may be rigged. “Those who are in power already started to buy voters. The Democratic Party is particularly active in this respect,” said the former head of state.
He added that he is not a wealthy man, but considers himself a good man who is rich spiritually. He is proud of the results he achieved when he was President, while the rumors about his impressive property are nothing else but inventions by journalists.
