Vladimir Turcan still hopes a compromise will be reached in Parliament, Veaceslav Untila complies with AEI's decision
Vladimir Turcan, the leader of the group of unaffiliated MPs who represent the United Moldova Party, still hopes that the Liberal-Democrat coalition and the Communists Party will reach a compromise in Parliament. At the same time, the leader of the group of lawmakers of the European Action Movement Veaceslav Untila has told Info-Prim Neo that he backs the Alliance's decision to hold a referendum in September and early elections in November, though he hoped Article 78 will be amended in Parliament.
“It was better if a solution was reached basing on the two constitutional amendment proposals formulated by the PCRM and the AEI. The first two rounds of voting should be held in Parliament and if the head of state is not elected by a simple majority, we should dissolve Parliament and allow for direct election of the President,” Vladimir Turcan said.
According to him, the PCRM would accept such a solution in order to avoid additional costs and the division of the society. “We'd better reach a compromise in Parliament. If it does not happen, we can hold a referendum according to the Alliance's decision. We still have time to come to an agreement in Parliament,” he said.
Veaceslav Untila said the European Action Movement accepts the Alliance's solution. “We must follow such a path as we cannot break the Constitution. The referendum is a constitutional method of unlocking the political crisis,” he said.
