Vladimir Turcan: State power was usurped on August 28

Communist MP Vladimir Turcan said that the state power was usurped at the first sitting of the Parliament on August 28. “The composition of the legislature was reduced to 53 MPs,” Turcan said at Tuesday’s meeting of the Constitutional Court, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Communist MP, who is one of the authors of the application whereby the PCRM disputes the Parliament’s decisions of August 28, said that the first sitting of the legislative body was continued illegally and was chaired by a person who did not have the necessary powers. The August 28 sitting, which was attended only the members of the Alliance for European Integration, was chaired by the Liberal MP Ion Hadarca, who replaced the oldest MP Ivan Calin. Vadim Misin, another author of the PCRM’s application, said that the rights of the 48 Communist MPs were infringed at the Parliament’s sitting of August 28. “The 53 MPs acted consciously and violated our constitutional rights,” he said. The PCRM says that on August 28 Mihai Ghimpu was elected Speaker illegally. The Alliance for European Integration (the PLDM, PL, PDM and AMN) says the vote was within the law.
