Vladimir Turcan elected president of United Moldova Party

MP Vladimir Turcan, a former top Communist Party member, was elected president of the United Moldova Party (UMP) at the IV Assembly of the UMP, held in Chisinau on Saturday, February 6, Info-Prim Neo reports. The assembly also adopted a new party emblem, depicting a bison's head with a star above. The previous party leader, Ana Tcaci, said the United Moldova, with a refreshed make-up, is now ready “to do everything to earn the trust of the citizens and guide the country towards a pattern of prosperity”. In his enthusiastic speech, Vladimir Turcan declared that from now on, Moldova “will revive and consolidate itself”. “The United Moldova Party will make Moldova one of the most important countries in Europe. From now on, this party has a new start and its goal is to place the country on a course of development and cohesion. We have a party, United Moldova, and we shall have a united Moldova as well!”. “Bearing in mind the acute problems of Moldova's political and socioeconomic life, the United Moldova intends to consolidate the statehood of the Republic of Moldova, to promote a new economic policy accessible for everybody, to defend the family and the child, to promote policies related to human development, to settle the Transnistrian issue”, declared MP Victor Stepaniuc, another defector from the Communist Party. In its refurbished platform, the United Moldova promises to implement a strategic program for sustainable development, containing social, economic and political reforms meant to place Moldova among prosperous European countries.
