The government coalition, in all its forms since 2009, has been dysfunctional because only a part of this coalition worked for the country’s European course. Political analyst of the Jamestown Foundation and Eurasia Daily Monitor Vladimir Socor made such statements in a roundtable meeting entitled “November 30 parliamentary elections and European perspectives of Moldova”, saying the team managed by Vlad Filat and Iurie Leanca carried the burden of the European integration process, IPN reports.
Vladimir Socor noted that the government headed by the Filat-Leanca team managed to overcome the economic crisis of 2009, to obtain the visa-free regime with the EU and to sign the Association Agreement with the European Union. “As an analyst who sees Moldova from outside, I reached the conclusion that namely the reelection of the Filat-Leanca team ensured the country’s European course,” he stated.
The analyst believes that Russia is interested in a coalition in Parliament between the Communist Party (PCRM), Igor Dodon’s Socialists and the team of Renato Usatyi. He is convinced that the PCRM is not Moscow’s ally in Moldova, but Dodon and Usatyi are. If a coalition between one of the pro-European parties with the PCRM is inevitable, the EU will anyway support Moldova because it cooperated earlier with the Communist government too. As to a coalition between the PDM, PCRM and Usatyi, Vladimir Socor said it would be suicidal for the PDM.
Vladimir Socor recommends Moldova to invite European experts who would be integrated into the law enforcement bodies. The announcement of such an idea would attract more supported for the pro-European parties.
The roundtable meeting “November 30 parliamentary elections and European perspectives of Moldova” was organized by the Institute for Political Analysis and Consultancy “Politicon”. The Institute’s direction Anatol Taranu said the event was staged because the country goes through a dangerous period, when it should make a crucial choice.
