Vladimir Gotisan ranks fifth at European Wrestling Championships
Four Moldovan athletes Tuesday entered the European Wrestling Championships held in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku. Vladimir Gotisan achieved the best result, ranking fifth in the 66 kg class, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Gotisan beat Germany's Saba Bolaghi, but was defeated by Azerbaijan's Jabrail Hasanov, who became a champion later.
In re-qualifications, the Moldovan wrestler won against British athlete Philip James Roberts, but lost to Poland's Adam Sobieraj in the decisive fight for the bronze medal.
Alexandru Chirtoaca (55 kg class) finished 11th, Piotr Ianulov (84 kg) – 18th, while Andrei Podsevalnikov (120 kg) – 10th.
Wrestlers Andrei Prepelita (60 kg), Alexandru Burca (74 kg), Nicolae Ceban (96 kg), and Natalia Budu (51 kg) will enter the competition the next days.
In the men's country rankings, Moldova takes the 12th position of 27 countries.
