The vice president of the Democratic Party Vladimir Cebotari said Mihai Poalelungi could have reigned as president of the Constitutional Court under the public pressure that was exerted on him and not only on him . “He decided to assume this attack in order to save the Constitutional Court as an institution,” the Democratic heavyweight was quoted by IPN as saying in a program on Moldova 1 channel.
According to him, initially President Igor Dodon and political leaders Maia Sandu and Andrei Năstase recognized June 7 as the deadline for forming the parliamentary majority, but it is not known why they changed the rhetoric the next day. “It is now evident that powerful pressure was exerted from outside. I think there are no doubts in this regard,” stated the politician.
Vladimir Cebotari said the CC had never earlier revised its own judgements. This happened after the PDM peacefully passed on the power and President Igor Dodon and Prime Minister Maia Sandu harshly demanded that the High Court should review its decisions. “Owing to that pressure exerted on it, the Court conceded. Our courts are probably not sufficiently independent if they yield to political pressure exerted from outside,” he stated.
He also said that the precedents set now represent a very bid danger. “The dismissal of functionaries for the reason that they do not share the same political views, this pressure exerted on the Constitutional Court for the simple reason that they don’t like the pronounced decision set precedents that enable the political class to intervene as it likes to change persons who are irremovable and enjoy superior immunity. Regrettably, these precedents will cost us a lot and these politicians who exert such pressure resort to unwise and irresponsible actions, to my mind,” noted Vladimir Cebotari.
