The vice president of the PDM Vladimir Cebotari said the European Parliament’s resolution that urges to suspend any financial assistance to Moldova is unpleasant, politically difficult and will have consequences for all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. But the PDM has solutions and will make sure that the citizens are not affected by the possible inconveniences. The statements were made in a press briefing after the party’s weekly meeting, IPN reports.

According to the politician, the resolution was regrettably adopted in a hurry, without having discussions and without providing clarification and contains a series of incorrect declarations. “The resolution does not change our approach to the European course, to the commitments we assumed and to all the projects we announced,” stated Vladimir Cebotari.

Asked if the recommendations formulated by the European Parliament in the resolution, as regards the consultation of NGOs and the press when Moldova’s Parliament adopts the Broadcasting Code in the final reading, will be taken into account, the vice president of the PDM said the draft document was proposed and edited by civil society and representatives of the press and the government does not need a resolution to continue to fulfil its commitments. “We are serious in our approaches so that we can do without such papers,” he stated.

On July 5, the European Parliament adopted a resolution by which it recommends the European Commission to suspend any foreseen payments of macro-financial assistance and budget support to Moldova. The MEPs consider any decision on the future payments should be taken only after the planned parliamentary elections and on condition that these are held in accordance with the internationally recognized standards and are assessed by specialized intentional organizations.
