The Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS), which is one of the two constituents of the Bloc ACUM, has three potential candidates for the local elections in Chisinau municipality, MP of the Bloc ACUM Vladimir Bolea stated in the talk show “Important” on TVC21 channel. According to him, ACUM will run in the local elections as a bloc and will have one candidate, IPN reports.

“The Party “Action and Solidarity” has three persons who can enter the competition for the post of mayor,” said the MP, noting he personally will not run.

Vladimir Bolea stated the local organizations now hold the so-called primaries that involve persons who want to become mayors, deputy mayors, councilors and district heads. “These should persuade first of all their colleagues that they are worthy candidates. There are different filters and criteria by which the persons are to show how they became politically involved, what qualities and studies they have,” he said.

According to him, a list of candidates will be this way compiled and this will be discussed with the other component of the Bloc ACUM – the Party “Dignity and Truth” Platform.

Jurist of the Party of Socialists Fadei Nagachevski said the PSRM is preparing for the local elections. Under the law on the local public administration, five mayors and five district councils are to be elected in Chisinau starting with 2019. The law on the status of the municipality of Chisinau does not specify this.

“It is interesting how the Central Election Commission, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova will address the given issue. It is not clear whether they will use the law on the local public administration so that we have five mayors and five district councils or the implementation of the given provision will be postponed until the next elections,” stated the jurist.

The date of local elections is to be set by the Parliament elected on February 24, 2019. The terms in office of mayors and councilors expire this summer, but will be automatically extended until the next local elections.
