Vlad Țurcanu leaves Romanian People’s Party

The president of the Romanian People’s Party (PPR) Vlad Țurcanu announced his intention to leave the party because of the differences in the views as to how the Romanian political pole should be unified in Moldova. “Some of my fellows were tempted by the Liberal Party’s offer, but I plead for cooperation with the team of Octavian Țîcu and Viorel Iordăchescu, who I have known long and with whom I share similar political views and ideals,” Vlad Țurcanu stated in a press conference at IPN.

Vlad Țurcanu said he respects his mates from the PPR, but their choice does not match his beliefs about the path of the parties that share the Romanian views and about the politicians who want to remain in Moldovan politics. They are those who caused powerful disappointment during the last few years and owing to whom there is no political force in Parliament that would represent these voters who plead for decisive rapprochement and then for union with Romania.

The politician said he does not rule out the possibility that he will yet cooperate with his mates the relations with whom remained the same. “I think that we, all those who have political ambitions and something to prove in Moldovan politics should unite around Octavian Țîcu, who is a powerful and determined leader involved in the restoration of the European and Romanian course in Moldova. He is a cerebral leader who can forge the long-expected consolidation of the pro-Romanian forces. As this is an opinion shard also by our political opponents, it is at least strange to keep the people who gave meaning to this state, this territory in 1991 on the periphery of Moldovan politics. These people have dreams about this territory and the rapprochement with Romania. I think it is a first step towards restoring normality in the Republic of Moldova,” noted Vlad Țurcanu.

He also said that his colleagues from the Romanian People’s Party are tempted by the Liberal leader Dorin Chirtoacă’s offer to unify the pro-Romanian forces together with the National Liberal Party and the Save Bessarabia Union. The politicians who represent these parties have nothing to prove in Moldova as they are to blame for the fact that those who have pro-Romanian views are now on the periphery.

Asked if he would join the National Unity Party led by Octavian Țîcu, Vlad Țurcanu said that he hasn’t yet taken a definitive decision. Asked about the presidential elections, Vlad Țurcanu said Octavian Țîcu is a candidate who should be taken seriously. “I say this one year before the presidential elections, but a decisive year follows and we yet decide something in the period,” stated Vlad Țurcanu.
