Vlad Plahotniuc suspends himself from post of first deputy chairman of PDM

Vlad Plahotniuc announced on his Facebook page that he decided to suspend himself from the post of first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) and from the position of party member until the investigation into Banca de Economii (BEM) is over, IPN reports.

“Given that the investigation into the case of Banca de Economii should be outside suspicions related to possible external influence on the law enforcement institutions and given the accusations made against me, even if these weren’t substantiated and are unfounded, I think it is opportune to leave the post of first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova for a period. I will also not be a party member until the case of the BEM is clarified,” said the politician.

Vlad Plahotniuc said that he had never been involved in this case, but considers it is important to do this now so as not to allow manipulation campaigns to affect the activity of the law enforcement bodies and the image of the party of which he forms part. The PDM will contribute to ensuring the stability of Moldova’s European course, but the avoidance of early elections and the experiencing of a very serious political crisis depend on the responsibility of all the ruling parties.
