The Democratic Party decided to field the party’s first deputy chairman Vlad Plahotniuc for the post of Prime Minister. The announcement was made by the Democrats’ leader Marian Lupu at the presidential villa in Condrita in the afternoon of January 13, IPN reports.
Marian Lupu told the press that the decision was taken in the meeting of the party’s Political Bureau earlier today. President Nicolae Timofti was informed about this decision and is to decide whether to sign a decree to nominate the proposed candidate or not. The head of state announced he has time until January 14 to decide.
Asked about the suspicions of involvement in acts of corruption confronting Vlad Plahotniuc and about his reportedly highest anti-rating in the country, the chairman of the Democratic Party said there is no court decision showing Plahotniuc is guilty, noting there are now few politicians in Moldova who have a high rating.
As to the fact that no statements were made after the meeting of the Political Bureau, Marian Lupu said it would have been incorrect for the head of state to find out who is the proposed candidate from the media.
