Vlad Plahotniuc has no connection with case of Galina Proidisvet, lawyer

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Vlad Plahotniuc is not involved in the case of the former first vice president of Victoriabank Galina Proidisvet in which businessman Victor Topa was sentenced to ten years in jail, Iulian Balan, lawyer for Galina Proidisvet, said in a news conference, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The lawyer said he called the news conference following press reports that the case is a political one and that Victor Topa was convicted after he gave testimony against Vlad Plahotniuc in another case. “I note that Vlad Plahotniuc has never been summoned as a side in the given trial and all the related statements are groundless,” said Iulian Balan. He also said that if the sides do not agree with the sentence against Victor Topa, they can appeal it. But the witnesses confirmed that in 2007 Galina Proidisvet was abducted by police officers in Moscow. Victor Topa and his accomplice Vladimir Morari were also present there. “The evidence showed that they had direct influence on the given case. It is the higher courts that will decide how conclusive the proofs are. But the fact that Galina Proidisvet lost the shares (in BC Victoriabank) as a result of the visit paid by Mister Topa and Mister Morari in Moscow, where she was threatened and pressurized, is incontestable,” said the lawyer. According to Iulian Balan, in 2007 Galina Proidisvet issued under pressure a power of attorney in the name of Vladimir Morari, whereby the shares owned in BC Victoriabank were sold at derisory prices. Victor Topa was sentenced to ten years behind bars for illegally obtaining property in large amounts. The court found Vladimir Morari guilty as well. The judgment was passed on October 19 in the absence of Victor Topa.
