Vlad Filat: Wheat prices increased, but bread prices remained unchanged

The prices of wheat and other components of bread went up, but the bread prices remained at the same level, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said during a visit to “Franzeluta” Bakery on February 11, Info-Prim Neo reports. Asked by the journalists, the Premier said that he made the visit at the invitation of the bakery’s director Victor Cojocaru and of Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov. “It is an important enterprise that supplies about 30% of the population with bread,” he stated. He also said that the social bread and other types of bread subsidized by the enterprise will not become dearer. In this connection, Victor Cojocaru said that the traditional bread made at the bakery is sold at the same price as earlier. “The social bread “Chisinau” and “Codru” cost 1.50 lei as until now. Moreover, on 12.12.2012 we decreased the prices of 12 products by 12%,” said the director. “Franzeluta” makes daily over 30 types of bread, the daily average being 150-155 tonnes of bread. Recently, the buyers saw that the prices of certain types of bread made at “Franzeluta” rose by up to 0.5 lei. Contacted by journalists, the company’s administration said that the composition of some types of bread was modified and the products are heavier. The sellers of bread said they received the same explanations. The Government allocated almost 29,000 tonnes of wheat from the state reserve to bakeries to prevent the rise in bread prices.
