Vlad Filat: We have the amount of sugar needed until new harvest
Prime Minister Vlad Filat assures the volume of sugar on the home market is sufficient to satisfy demand until the new harvest. He said the price of sugar rose because a rather large quantity of Moldovan sugar is exported to Ukraine and Romania, where the prices are higher, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Vlad Filat, a series of measures will be taken to alleviate the problem. He did not specify what kind of measures, but said a decision will be taken after February 16, when the mission of the International Monetary Fund will close its visit to Chisinau.
The Premier said that if there are shortages of sugar, the necessary volumes will be imported.
During the last two weeks, the price of sugar has increased from 13.5 lei to 15.5 lei per kilogram.
