Before building bridges, we had to remove the barbed wire between us and us, said former Prime Minister Vlad Filta, who was released from jail two months ago on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the removal of the bribed wire placed along the Prut River, IPN reports.
“A piece of our painful history collapsed then. Today, the barbed wire that was set up along the Prut is in museums and almost all the politicians in Romania and the Republic of Moldova have by a piece of these “frontier” that separated us from us,” said the ex-Premier.
Vlad Filat also said that he then dared, “with Romania near us, to hope and dream that one day we will be a little star on the EU’s flag or at least a part of a star of the European constellation.” He thanked all his then mates for their struggle. “It was an honor and a privilege for me to struggle near you, not only for bread, but also for the soul and freedom of our nation. You are not defeated when you are bleeding only,” he stated.
The process of removing the barbed wire from the border with Romania was launched on February 10, 2010, by order of Vlad Filat, who served as Prime Minister then. The authorities removed 360 km of barbed wire that represented a fence between Romania and the Republic of Moldova. More than 3,000 tonnes of barbed wire have been stored as a result.
