The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat used Maia Sandu when he nominated her for Prime Minister in a move to restore his image and gain credibility, director of the Institute of Diplomatic, Political and Security Studies Valeriu Ostalep said in the program “Pahomi” on “Realitatea TV” channel, IPN reports. 

“Filat knew that Maia Sandu is not liked by the alliance partners and he personally didn’t want her in the post of Premier. But he performed a cheap maneuver in order to gain credibility before the foreign partners, presenting the situation this way: I am the most European one, while those from the PDM and PL rejected such an upright candidate,” stated the analyst.

Ostalep believes that Filat chose Maia Sandu because she was a dissident minister. “I think Maia Sandu is not the one she pretends to be. I would have believed it if she hadn’t voted for those secret decisions to provide guarantees for lending to Banca de Economii. But she kept silent and waited for a suitable moment. Filat is yet in a delicate situation. He has to choose between two variants – either to remain in power or to go to jail. The mistakes made in the past started to come out,” he stated.

Valeriu Ostalep considers the Democratic Party and the Liberal Party didn’t accept the candidacy of Maia Sandu because they were afraid they will be unable to manipulate her. “Those who are in power and have leverage want the inferiors to obey their orders and want to be able to manipulate them. They will never accept an inferior who could assert himself independently in a period,” he said.
