There are preconditions for electing the head of state, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat considers. In an interview for Radio Free Europe, he said the fate of the Alliance for European Integration depends on the election of the head of state, Info-Prim Neo reports. “If the President is not elected, we will have early legislative elections and nobody will be able to say what composition the new Parliament will have. The alliance’s fate depends on the election of the head of state. We do not yet have a solution, but there are preconditions for finding it given that there are 62 MPs, of the 61 needed to vote in the head of state, who consider the President should be elected,” said Vlad Filat. He also said that the AEI now has only one candidate for the presidency - Marian Lupu. “We are not yet in the situation of speaking about another candidate and giving names,” said Filat. He stressed he approves of the Democratic leader Marian Lupu’s readiness not to claim the presidency and to vote for another candidate. “It is a decision that shows not only political courage, but also responsibility,” stated the Liberal-Democratic leader. Vlad Filat said he was ready for negotiations on the election of the President with the Communist Party. “Discussions may take place with this party. For my personal comfort, I would neglect the discussion with Vladimir Voronin. It is not easy to talk and achieve no results. But it is my duty to make sure that this dialogue is held as there are problems when there is no communication,” he stressed, adding everyone knows that the Communists wants early elections.
