Vlad Filat summoned to Prosecutor General's Office

Prime Minister Vlad Filat is expected to present himself at the Prosecutor General's Office (PG) on June 7 to be questioned as a witness in the cases related to the April 6-7, 2009 events, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a communique, the PG says the investigation into the April 2009 rioting and mass disorder goes on. More than 1,500 persons were quizzed, including former dignitaries, politicians, and lawmakers. A number of 52 legal cases were started against persons who took part in the devastation of the main state buildings, committing acts of hooliganism and thefts. Of them, 31 cases opened against 43 persons were sent to court. 178 persons are no more investigated. The prosecutors also examine the offenses committed against the protesters and other persons by representatives of the public authorities, which are classed as misuse of power, use of torture, etc. The Military Prosecutor's Office of Chisinau, the Prosecutor's Office of Chisinau municipality and other bodies dealt with 108 reports concerning the offenses. Legal cases were opened in 53 cases. Twenty one cases against 36 police officers were remitted to court.
