Vlad Filat suggests instituting National Reform Committee

Prime Minister Vlad Filat proposed creating a National Reform Committee. The subject was discussed in a closed-door meeting of the National Participation Council on July 19, Info-Prim Neo reports. After about two hours of dialogue with representatives of civil society, the Premier said the committee will monitor how the reforms will be implemented. “I think we must institute such a committee because we need efficient communication inside the Government. From my viewpoint, this committee should include representatives of all the government institutions, all the ministers,” he stated. The committee will also consist of representatives of the academic and business communities, trade unions and employers. “The tasks of this committee will be to unlock and monitor the reform process and to contribute to enhanced legislative initiatives,” said Vlad Filat. National Participation Council chairman Sorin Mereacre said the goal of the committee is to encourage and unblock reforms in a number of sectors. He also said that there must be more dialogue platforms between the authorities and society. Arcadie Barbarosie, head of the Public Policy Institute, said such a committee is necessary. “The two or three representatives of society that will form part of the committee can demand that a certain minister in charge of reforms in a certain field present strategies and solutions to the encountered problems,” he said. The possibility of setting up a National Reform Committee was also considered in the meetings of the Premier and representatives of society held in the first half of July.
