Prime Minister Vlad Filat had a meeting with the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the press services of the Moldovan Government. When discussing the situation in Moldova and possibilities of developing the bilateral relations, Hillary Clinton said the United States will assist Moldova in implementing reforms and strengthening democracy and in its efforts to join the EU. She promised she will discuss issues concerning Moldova with EU officials responsible for foreign relations. The U.S. Secretary of State assured Vlad Filat that the United States will continue to support Moldova through the USAID programs and the Millennium Challenge Corporation. Speaking about the Transnistrian conflict, Hilary Clinton said the U.S. considers that the dispute should be solved at the talks in the 5+2 format by respecting Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. “I realized that Moldova has true friends in the U.S. who will help us by deeds, nor words,” the Moldovan Premier said. The meeting was attended by the members of the Moldovan governmental delegation, the U.S. Ambassador to Moldova and Asif J. Chaudry and representatives of the Moldovan Embassy in Washington. The Moldovan delegation had been in the U.S. on a visit between January 19 and 23.
