Ex-Premier Vlad Filat remains in custody. The Chisinau Appeals Court rejected the appeal of the lawyers, who asked setting their client free. Before the May 25 hearing, Liberal-Democratic MPs and members of the Liberal Democratic Party came to the Appeals Court to demand that the trial should be made public, IPN reports.
The head of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Tudor Deliu said that his colleagues, who are witnesses in this case, weren’t even invited to the hearing in the case of Vlad Filat. “We came here to demand a public trial. The information made public should not be hidden behind the robes of judges and prosecutors. Vlad Filat cannot be to blame for all the harm that was done and continues to be done,” he stated.
Last week, judges of the Buiucani Court extended the remand detention of Vlad Filat for 30 days. The former Prime Minister faces 7 to 15 years in jail for influence peddling and passive corruptions. He pleads not guilty.
