Vlad Filat questioned by commission of inquiry into situation on currency market

The chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat presented himself at the meeting of the commission of inquiry into the situation on the currency market. He told the journalists that he came without being invited because he is annoyed with the large number of insinuations concerning the situation in the banking system, including those referring to him, IPN reports.

Speaking about Banca de Economii, the politician said there were many discussions on the issue, including within the special parliamentary commission of the previous legislative body. “As a result of the discussions, there were suggested three methods of remedying the situation. We discussed all the three methods with ex-Premier Iurie Leanca. As it is normal, the state authorities suggested the final implementation method. I think the idea of attracting an investor was right, but the implementation of this idea was defective. It is yet to be found out who is to blame,” said the Liberal-Democratic leader.

As to the accusations that he is involved in the stealing of millions of lei from Banca de Economii, Vlad Filat said those who tell lies and manipulate thus the public opinion will be brought to justice.

The Parliament’s commission of inquiry was set up to examine the situation on the currency market following reports that 21 billion lei was stolen from Banca de Economii. Allegedly, the €1 billion purchased with this money was taken out of the country.
