Vlad Filat: PLDM will field no other candidates for presidency

The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) Vlad Filat said that his party will put forward no other candidates for the post of President if the Liberal Party (PL) rejects candidate Veronica Bacalu, former deputy governor of the central bank. Related statements were made in the program “Replica” on the TV channel Prime, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Vlad Filat, a clear answer as regards candidate Veronica Bacalu is to be given this week and the date of the presidential elections is to be set. “In the meetings held within the Alliance for European Integration, we discussed not only the presidential elections, but also other important issues. The colleagues from the alliance are to give a clear and justified answer and if they reject Missis Bacalu, we will decide how to act further. I would like to say that in such a case the PLDM will no longer take part in the process of fielding candidates so that we do not go again through this purgatory of the Liberal Party,” said the Liberal-Democratic leader. He also said that the PLDM has 31 seats of MP and can propose two candidates for the presidency. “But there must be a candidate who will secure the votes of at least 61 lawmakers,” stated Vlad Filat. He confirmed that if the date of the presidential elections is not fixed and a compromise about the presidential candidate is not reached, the Acting President will ask the Constitutional Court to pronounce on the circumstances leading to the dissolution of Parliament. In this connection, Vlad Filat informed that on March 5 the AEI Council will have a meeting, where the Liberal colleagues are to give a definite answer as regards the candidate for the presidency.
