Vlad Filat: Only coalition with pro-European parties is possible

The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat said that after the November 30 legislative elections, their party will accept to form a coalition only with the pro-European parties. He made such a statement in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

“The PLDM does not aim to come to power at any cost. We only want to be able to continue Moldova’s European course and make it irreversible. Therefore, a government coalition is possible only with the pro-European parties because it’s impossible to enter Europe with the hammer and sickle, with those who say that the former ‘prison of peoples’ is a value, with those who consider a regime that killed millions of people as good,” said the leader of PLDM, answering a question about a possible post-electoral coalition with the Communist Party.

For the same reasons, Vlad Filat would be for a coalition with the Liberal Party, despite the earlier frequent altercations with its leader. “We must forget about personal frustrations and party ambitions and join efforts to continue the European course,” he stated.

Vlad Filat noted that the biggest mistake he made as a politician was to believe that politics were a sincere and open exercise. “I played sincerely and openly and thus suffered the consequences of such a behavior. But it was yet an experience,” he said.

The former Premier stated that the greatest accomplishments and the greatest expectations are related also to the European integration. “The signing of the Association Agreement with the EU and the fact that our people travel freely in the EU are great achievements. At the same time, we admit that life in Moldova is yet hard and we didn’t manage to achieve the level we wanted. However, important results were achieved, showing that we are coming closer to the set goals. Significant investments were made in infrastructure. In 2006, there were repaired 6% of the roads, while now – 80%. From 2007 until 2014, the budget allocations for healthcare doubled. There were repaired and modernized over 800 education institutions. The salaries of budget-funded employees were increased. We also raised pensions, even if slightly. An alternative to the European vector is only the absence of future in general,” said Vlad Filat.

He described fresh politician Renato Usatyi as a ‘hybrid’ politician that represents a mixture of KGB and the criminal world. “This person is not dangerous, but the forces that are behind him are dangerous for Moldova. They invest considerable amounts of money in this destructive process,” he stated.

As to the leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon, the Liberal-Democratic leader said he is the person who asks Moscow to impose all kinds of bans and exert pressure on Moldovan society and that he will soon appear in pictures together with Dmitry Medvedev or Vladimir Putin to show who can solve the problems between Moldova and Russia. He drew a parallel between Igor Dodon and Pavlik Morozov, promising Romanian journalist Cristian Tabara to tell him who  Morozov was after the program.
