Vlad Filat: No situation can justify killing of person

Prime Minister Vlad Filat said no situation can justify the killing of a person. Asked by the press to pronounce on the statements made by Russian Ambassador Valery Kuzmin, who said the Russian peacekeeper fired shots at the young man because he posed a threat, the Premier said he cannot comment on the statements of an ambassador, but stressed that there were no reasons for killing the man, Info-Prim Neo reports. “According to my information, and I assure you that I possess detailed information, there were no reasons to kill that person,” said Vlad Filat. According to him, the Government of Moldova will take all the necessary measures to ensure an objective investigation so as to establish all the circumstances of the incident and punish those to blame. “We hope for cooperation and we made related approaches to the Russian side,” said the Premier. Asked about the financial assistance that will be provided to the family of the killed young man, Vlad Filat said he does not want to give details. “It is a special situation for me as that young man was a party colleague. That’s why I will not provide details,” he stated. After a meeting with the Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca and Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Karpov on January 2, Valery Kuzmin told the press that the young man who was shot mortally by a Russian peacekeeper was driving a stolen car and was under the influence. The incident happened at the trilateral peacekeeping posts No. 9 situated on the bridge over the Nistru near Vadul lui Voda on January 1. The 18-year-old man died in the hospital one hour after he was operated.
