Moldova obtained the abolition of the visa regime with the European Union and the pending signing of the Association Agreement owing to the efforts made by the government to fulfill the conditions imposed by the EU in the implementation of the plan of action, not owing to the tense situation in the region, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova Vlad Filat said in the program “Place for dialogue” on Radio Moldova station, IPN reports.
Vlad Filat noted that not the conjuncture in the region prevented Georgia or Ukraine from obtaining a visa-free regime with the EU, but the fact that these countries haven’t yet met the requirements.
“One should not think that the crisis situations solve by themselves the existing problems. Brussels does not make presents, while the messages of the European officials concerning the country are very clear. If we hadn’t met the necessary conditions, we wouldn’t have achieved these results. We do not want to become part of the EU unprepared. We will work a lot for not to become the Cinderella of the EU that is always waiting for assistance. We want to become a European state with a functional economy that will create new jobs, etc.” said Vlad Filat.
He underlined that Moldova’s European course does not hamper the country from maintaining and developing the relations with Russia.
