A number of Moldovan students studying in Romania and future students had a meeting with the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat and other Liberal-Democrats on September 20. The former Premier told the young people that Moldova goes through an epoch of great accomplishments, but also of great challenges so that the Moldovans must join efforts to cope with them, IPN reports.
The politician spoke about his recent meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and his visit to the United States Senate. “I was impressed by that atmosphere and by the solidarity expressed by the U.S. people and their representatives not only with Ukraine, but also with Moldova, in the most direct way,” said Vlad Filat, noting that Moldova’s objective in the relations with the United States is to pass from the strategic dialogue to a strategic partnership.
The leader of the PLDM told the young people about his experience as a student in Romania, where he was the co-founder and first chairman of the League of Bessarabian Students, underlining that the Moldovans studying abroad must cooperate and make common cause.
Minister of Education Maia Sandu, who is a member of the PLDM, presented the situation in the education system of Moldova, noting that education is important for the country’s competitiveness as the economy cannot be sustainable without the human factor, which is the main factor of economic growth. “The education reform is done all over the world. The countries where this reform will not succeed will lag behind by 20-30 years,” she said, voicing hope that the Education Code will be adopted in the next 2-3 weeks.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Iulian Groza and Liberal-Democratic lawmaker George Mocanu. The MP said the idea of holding such a meeting was put forward by students, who wanted an occasion for discussing with decision makers of Moldova.
