Prime Minister Vlad Filat, the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), is considered the most suitable candidate for presidency. According to an opinion poll conducted by the Romanian Institute for Assessment and Strategy and the East-Europe Foundation Moldova, 20.9% of the respondents would vote for Vlad Filat. The leader of the Democratic Party (PDM) Marian Lupu would poll 16.3% of the vote, while the former head of state Vladimir Voronin, who heads the Party of Communists – 14.9%. The results of the poll were made public on May 19, Info-Prim Neo reports. Only 3.3% of those questioned would vote for the Acting President Mihai Ghimpu, the chairman of the Liberal Party (PL). Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, the vice chairman of the PL, would win 1.7% of the vote, while the former Premier Zinaida Greceanyi – 1.4%. Other political figures will garner less than 1%. The poll shows the PCRM is the most popular party. 26.4% of the respondents would vote for this party in possible legislative elections. The PLDM would poll 22,4% of the vote, the PDM – 7.3%, while the PL – 5.8%. The Moldova Noastra Alliance Party would obtain only 1.5% of the vote and would not enter the Parliament. Other parties would win less than 1%. The poll was carried out between April 30 and May 9. It covered a sample of 1,500 persons and has a margin of error of about 2.6%.
