Marian Lupu remains the AEI’s candidate for the presidency, but if a compromise solution as regards another candidate is found during the negotiations with the PCRM, it will have to be taken into account, Prime Minister Vlad Filat, the leader of the PLDM, said on Monday, September 26, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vlad Filat stated that the PLDM is ready to vote for the person who can become President, not for a candidate for the presidency. The same day, Vlad Filat, as the leader of the party that is currently holding the presidency of the AEI, sent to the PCRM an official invitation to negotiations. “Given the difficult political situation in Moldova and the necessity of overcoming the constitutional crisis, there should be opened a dialogue involving all the parliamentary parties. In the name of the Alliance for European Integration, I invite you to this dialogue where we can identify the best solutions for Moldova,” says the letter to PCRM chairman Vladimir Voronin, signed by Vlad Filat. In this connection, the leader of the PLDM stressed that things should be addressed calmly. “A decision will be taken as a result of the discussions with the PCRM. The AEI will also analyze the situation and reach a decision,” said Vlad Filat. After the PCRM’s plenary meeting on September 24, Vladimir Voronin said the party that he heads will not negotiate with the AEI, but with every member party separately. He also said that the Communist Party does not support Marian Lupu as former Premier Zinaida Grecianyi is the only candidate that deserves becoming head of state.
