Vlad Filat: I hope sacrifice made today, which I accept, will lead to disintegration of odious system

“I hope the sacrifice made today, which I accept, will lead to the disintegration of this odious system that causes the putrefaction of the country where he live,” the head of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Vlad Filat told the press after the prosecutor general requested that his parliamentary immunity be annulled so that he could be investigated. The Lib-Dem said the system in Moldova is rotten and is controlled by the Democrat Vlad Plahotniuc, IPN reports.

Vlad Filat admitted that he made mistakes while heading the Government and said that he is ready to assume political responsibility for them. He noted that he does not need parliamentary immunity and asked his colleagues from the competent parliamentary commission to withdraw it so that they do not think that he wants to avoid responsibility. Filat also said that he will cooperate with the investigation bodies and voiced hope that the investigation will be fair and he will manage to prove his innocence.

“Until Plahotniuc is present in the public life in Moldova one way or another, our country does not have a future.  I say it not in retaliation, but in awareness of what is going on,” said the Lib-Dem. He added that Ilan Shor was forced into signing depositions.

Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin on October 15 asked Parliament to annul the parliamentary immunity of the Liberal-Democratic MP Vlad Filat so that this could be detained, arrested, investigated and brought to justice.

According to Gurin’s requisition, while holding the post of Prime Minister, Vlad Filat asked and received money from Ilan Shor for stopping the inspections at Dufremol, for naming him honorific consul in Russia and for allowing him to sell oil products. Also, Vlad Filat asked from Ilan Shor property and financial resources of over US$190 million for influencing public functionaries from the Government and other state institutions to take decisions and to adopt normative documents needed to ensure the issuing of additional shares at Banca de Economii, without the participation of the state. This led to the diminution of the state-owned holding in this bank to 33.3% plus 1 share and the taking over of Banca de Economii by Ilan Shor. These decisions also ensured the naming of Ilan Shor as head of the Administration Board of Banca de Economii and this thus obtained real possibilities of influencing the activity and decisions of the bank.
