Vlad Filat has one more chance to become Prime Minister, even after the Constitutional Court decided that his designation as a candidate for this post is unconstitutional. Unaffiliated lawmaker Sergiu Sarbu has told IPN that Vlad Filat can become Premier if Parliament interprets the Court’s decision in favor of the Liberal-Democratic candidate.
“We will see how the decision is interpreted. I think that Vlad Filat can be a candidate if the legislative body interprets the Court’s decision in his favor, namely that he wasn’t accused directly of acts of corruption,” said the lawmaker.
Sergiu Sarbu stated that he remained surprised by this decision. “I didn’t expect that it will be in such a form. I wondered earlier if the head of state intended to name an acting Prime Minister, but didn’t anticipate that it will be decided that Vlad Filat cannot apply for this post. I think that the President can name an acting Premier today already. New negotiations will be soon launched so as to identify another candidate,” said the unaffiliated lawmaker.
