Vlad Filat: European integration is and will be Moldova’s national project

Regardless of political rivalries and the goals and intentions, the European integration is and will be the national project of Moldova, the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat said in his speech at the Eastern Partnership meeting of the European People’s Party (EPP) held in Vilnius on November 28. The meeting brought together heads of state and government of the EaP member states, who are members of the European People’s Party, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the PLDM.

Vlad Filat underlined the importance of the meetings held in this format for the PLDM and for Moldova in general, saying that the Liberal Democratic Party offers plenary support to the Government and the state institutions in continuing the achievement of the objectives of the reform agenda adjusted to the European standards. “The PLDM is determined to contribute to joining efforts and actions at internal political level and at the level of civil society with the aim of continuing the European integration process,” said Vlad Filat.

He also spoke about the November 3 assembly that involved over 100,000 people, who came to support the European integration idea, and about the initiative to sign the National Responsibility Pact for a European Moldova, to which the parties of the government coalition subscribed and not only they.

Vlad Filat thanked the EPP for the constant support provided to the PLDM and, implicitly, to Moldova, in promoting the national European integration interest. “The support of our European partners and, especially, the solidarity of the European Christian-Democratic family counted and will count a lot for Moldova on its path to signing the Association Agreement in September 2014 and, afterward, in implementing this very important document for the finality of the European integration process,” he stated.

The meeting was attended by the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso, Romanian President Traian Basescu, Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev, President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades, Prime Minister of Luxemburg Jean-Claude Juncker, Prime Minister of Sweden Fredrik Reinfeldt, and others.
