Vlad Filat and Emil Boc hand over first small-scale traffic permits

Fifteen Moldovans today received small-scale traffic permits and will be able to enter Romania visa free. The permits were handed over by Moldovan Premier Vlad Filat and his Romanian counterpart Emil Boc, who is in Chisinau on a visit for the first time, Info-Prim Neo reports. The permits were distributed at the Romanian Consulate General located on Gr. Ureche St in Chisinau. The Romanian Ambassador in Chisinau Marius Lazurca said more than 1,000 applications for obtaining small-scale traffic permits have been accepted so far. Maria Tushinski from Hancesti was given the permit by Emil Boc. “I have three sons who study in Galati. Now I will be able to visit them whenever I want. Until now, I had to apply for a visa first,” said the woman. Emil Boc said he came to Chisinau with the history in his soul. He considers that the facilitation of Moldovan people's movement to Romania strengthens Moldova's European road. According to him, the signing of the Convention on Small-Scale Border Traffic is a first step that will be followed by more joint projects. “Romania is an unconditional supporter of Moldova's European integration efforts,” Emil Boc said. He also said the Romanian authorities will support the Government of Moldova in the talks on the liberalization of the visa regime with the EU that will start in Luxemburg on June 15. He stated that when the two Romanian consulates in Balti and Cahul are opened, the Moldovans will easier solve the consular problems. Moldovan Premier Vlad Filat said the reestablishment of the relations between Chisinau and Bucharest is the most important thing. “Moldova is a European country whose citizens support the European values. We will continue making effort, but need support. Romania helps us make progress,” he said. The Convention on Small-Scale Border Traffic came into force on March 31. It allows about 1.2 million Moldovan people to travel 50 kilometers inside Romania visa free, with small-scale border permits. The permits are issued for two years and can be extended up to five years.
