The Eurointegration Alliance can still have a future, provided that the partners get rid of emotions, make order in the Government and return to the pressing issues, stated Prime Minister Vlad Filat, the leader of the Liberal-Democratic Party, at a show on Publika TV, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The future of the Alliance now depends on the other leaders. They have to chew things over in their parties and take a decision, apart from any emotions. They may not agree with the form, but they have to appreciate the essence. This way, we could clean out the Alliance and convey a signal to the public officials that enough is enough. The administrative system is degrading because the functionaries feel protected by the parties they represent. If we don't stop this, things will get even worse. The public institutions must be depoliticized”, stated Vlad Filat. Vlad Filat denied reports that a coalition between the Lib-Dems and the Communists was about to appear. “Politicians talk all day about the 'watermelon' (a reference to the colors of the two parties) and other silly things. Both we and the Communists said an alliance between us was impossible. True, there was a common Lib-Dem-Communist vote in Parliament, but there was also a common vote between the Liberals and the Democrats, and there were those raiders that attacked the banks. I had an open struggle with the Communists. When I launched the slogan 'Moldova without Voronin, Moldova without Communists' it was directed at a defective government at that time. But 'Moldova without Voronin, Moldova without Communists' doesn't mean a Moldova full of bandits, raiders and attackers”. Political analyst Igor Botan, guest pundit on the show, said that Thursday's vote of the Lib-Dems and the Communists against the Intelligence Service director was expectable. “Vlad Filat said a long time ago that things were not working in the Alliance, that it was necessary to depoliticize the state institutions, that it was necessary to engage in dialogue with the Communists. We can say that it was a display of courage to bring matters to a head. It is reprochable, though, that things were not discussed within the Alliance.” “Now there are three scenarios that may unfold. The first is a reset of the Alliance, which could advantage the Liberal-Democratic Party, but I really doubt it will be accepted; it will become clear in a week if this is what is going to happen. Another variant could be the 'watermelon', but it is unlikely the Communist Party will agree to this. And the third alternative is snap elections”, said Igor Botan. Vlad Filat further said he was sure the Prosecutor-General would be eventually replaced. “We won't stop. The new Prosecutor-General will ensure conditions for the prosecutors to do their jobs”, said Filat. He added that he had nothing personally against Democratic Party's vice-president Vlad Plahontniuc, but against the way he mixed business with politics. On Thursday, Gheorghe Mihai was sacked from the post of director of the Security and Intelligence Service on a joint motion by the Liberal-Democratic Party and the Communist Party. The dismissal was proposed by Prime Minister Vlad Filat, who accused Mihai of “incompetence in managing the situation around the raider attacks on the banking system”. Under the same motion, the Speaker of Parliament is to initiate, within 7 days, the procedure of dismissing Prosecutor-General Valeriu Zubco and the head of the National Commission for the Financial Market Mihail Cibotaru. Other dismissals are expected to follow in the Government as well.
