Vlad Filat about PLDM’s plans after parliamentary elections

Continuation of the European course, strengthening of the party and formation of the government are the main tasks that the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) will undertake after the parliamentary elections, the party’s leader Vlad Filat said in the program “Politics” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.

According to the chairman of the PLDM, the path to the European Union is the only successful way for Moldova. “I think that if a referendum on the foreign course was held, most of the Moldovans would vote for integration into the EU. The results of the polls showing that less than 50% of the Moldovans are for joining the EU are only survey figures. I had a meeting with the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, who told me that we must take care of the country and must not allow the developments witnessed by Ukraine to repeat in Moldova. By signing the Association Agreement with the EU, we signed Moldova’s roadmap that shows clearly what we have to do. We will make sure that this road is continued,” he stated.

As to the formation of the government after the November 30 elections, Vlad Filat said the Cabinet will definitely be different, both in terms of polices and of composition. After the elections, the PLDM will field Iurie Leanca for premiership. “The party that gets the largest number of seats in Parliament has the right to propose candidates for the post of Prime Minister and for posts of Cabinet member. I’m sure that a pro-European coalition will be formed after November 30 and the PLDM will have the largest number of seats of MP,” he stated

Filat noted that the PLDM will form a post-electoral collation with the pro-European parities, not yet with the pro-Russian parties, including the Party of Communists (PCRM). “After the elections, we will let the frustrations and anger aside and will join forces in the name of the national interest. A coalition with the PCRM is excluded, even if they declare themselves Europeans. Voronin lacks credibility. This year he has changed his foreign orientation three times. Our party also witnessed deflections and other moves, but we didn’t change the course. We learned from our mistakes, while the broad coalition of 2005 was a mistake,” he stated.

Asked about his relationship with Iurie Leanca, after this gave his support to Prime Minister Victor Ponta in the Romanian presidential elections, Vlad Filat said Leanca is mature and has his own opinions and acted so owing to the post he holds and to his friendship with Ponta. “The relations between us are good. We are friends. There are no disagreements between us. These are rumors aimed at discrediting our party,” he stated.
