Vlad Batrîncea: Monopoly of one party become dangerous

The Socialist Party is mulling a no-confidence motion against the Gavrilița Government and will be pushing for a snap legislative election, its executive secretary, MP Vlad Batrîncea said.

“The government has to admit its mistakes, in terms of its choice of Cabinet members and key officials among other things. A party-affiliated Cabinet was set up, on non-transparent criteria. There are virtually anonymous or poorly prepared ministers who are not able to come up with anti-crisis measures. We are thinking about a no-confidence motion. A year on, we can conclude that this Government does not deliver results, does not meet the expectations of our citizens. Early elections are needed and citizens can decide who they trust. People must have the opportunity either to reconfirm the mandate offered to the PAS or to choose other parties. But it is clear that the future government must be based on compromise”, Batrîncea said during a talk show on RliveTV.

The lawmaker says that a one-party government in Moldova poses many risks. According to him, the possibility of organizing anti-government protests without any party flags is also being considered.

“A Government that belongs exclusively to a single political party has demonstrated its incapacity, a single political party has no visions, no people for key positions. This political monopoly becomes dangerous for the country through political subordination of Moldova 1, subordination of justice, lack of transparency in the management of public money. A parliamentary majority of two to three parties would ensure more transparency and debate. Because this is would reflect the structure of Moldovan society. There will still be protests, but they must be national, there must be a national agenda that strengthens the citizens”, said Batrîncea.

The Cabinet headed by Natalia Gavrilița was inaugurated on August 6, 2021 by the vote of 61 PAS lawmakers. At least 51 votes are needed for a no confidence motion to pass. Currently, the PAS holds 63 out of 101 seats in seats Parliament.
