Socialist MP Vlad Batrîncea, who is the head of the electoral staff of independent candidate for President Igor Dodon criticizes pro-European candidate Maia Sandu’s decision not to take part in electoral debates. “The allegedly European democratic candidate is afraid of debates,” IPN quoted Vlad Batrîncea as saying in a news conference.
According to the MP, the staffs of the two candidates who will compete in the runoff had a number of contacts last week. The staff of candidate Igor Dodon proposed holding two debates, one on the public TV channel Moldova 1 and another one at the Academy of Economic Studies (ASEM), where both of the candidates studied. No agreement was yet reached. After a pause of several days during which no one answered the phone, Maia Sandu announced that she will not take part in televised debates.
Vlad Batrîncea noted that Igor Dodon is further disposed to take part in electoral debates on Moldova 1 or at the ASEM.
In a press briefing earlier today, PAS candidate Maia Sandu said she insisted on a public debate in front of the people on issues of national interest, but whenever he is invited to discuss serious problems, Igor Dodon does nothing but say three lies in one sentence. According to the candidate, the only debates that Igor Dodon can have are those with prosecutors.
