Vitalie Pirlog chosen for post of prosecutor general

The commission for selecting the candidate for the post of prosecutor general chose Vitalie Pirlog out of the eight applicants. The decision was taken on March 27 after the commission interviewed the candidates in a public meeting, IPN reports.

The commission’s chairman Corneliu Gurin announced the name of the selected candidate after deliberations. The candidate will be presented to Head of Parliament Marian Lupu, who, for his part, will propose him for confirmation in Parliament.

Jurist Vitalie Pirlog had been minister of justice in 2006-2009. In September 2009, he held the post of Prime Minister on an interim basis for a short period of time. According to his income statement, last year he earned incomes of 135,000 lei from providing legal advice and from the public association that he heads. He owns a house to the value of almost 666,000 lei in Chisinau.

The post of prosecutor general was vacated by Valeriu Zubco following the tragic hunting incident in the Domneasca Forest. Zubco hid the fact that he had taken part in the hunting, which resulted in the death of a man.
