Vitalie Nagacevschi could become Moldova's judge at ECHR

Prime Minister Vlad Filat, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, hasn't confirmed reports, and hasn't denied either, that his party colleague Vitalie Nagacevschi could become Moldova's judge at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The reports appeared after Nagacevschi recently gave up his MP seat. Asked to comment on these reports, Filat said that Nagacevschi's appointment to ECHR “could be a solution” as “Vitalie Nagacevschi has the necessary grounding to meet the demands of the job, and Moldova needs professionals in such important organizations”. Judge Mihai Poalelungi has represented Moldova at the European Court since May 2008. Justice Minister Alexandru Tanase stated on one occasion that Mihai Poalelungi could be recalled to be appointed chief of the Supreme Court instead. Vitalie Nagacevschi, a lawyer by training, recently requested the Parliament's Standing Bureau to revoke his mandate as deputy without explaining his reasons. Next in line on the party's ticket for a seat in Parliament is Grigore Cobzac, an engineer from Hancesti.
