By suggesting designing a Code of Conduct for the electoral period, the Democratic Party (PDM) wants to show to the whole society and political players that it wants to set down, from the start, particular rules of the game, stated the party’s spokesman Vitalie Gamurari. According to him, there should be norms of conduct by which all the political players should abide, while the competent institutions should monitor the observance of these norms, IPN reports.

The spokesman for the PDM noted the Code of Conduct does not envision penalties for its non-observance, but particular institutions would monitor the situation and would compile reports and would make the violations committed by political players, the press and civil society public. “It is not about penalties as there are other responsible bodies and norms in this regard. If these norms are violated, the political player can be panelized in accordance with the law,” Vitalie Gamurari stated in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel.

Democratic MP Corneliu Mihalache said the idea of working out a Code of Conduct is a noble intention of the party. The politicians and the press too should change the attitude and become more responsible. “If the citizens do not penalize the press, no Code of Conduct will help,” he stated.

According to the MP, by the initiative to design a Code of Conduct for the electoral period, the Democratic Party shows that it intends to play honestly in the election campaign. “The political parties and the citizens are dissatisfied with what is going on in our political sector, but nobody goes beyond criticism,” said Corneliu Mihalache.

On December 11, the Democratic Party recommended the Central Election Commission and the Broadcasting Coordination Council to draft a Code of Conduct for the electoral period.
