The leader of the National Liberal Party Vitalia Pavlichenko said the pro-unionist parties should have reached a compromise as regards the appointment of a common candidate for President. The politician developed the issue in the program “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.
According to Vitalia Pavlichenko, the leaders of the unionist parties had a number of discussions. “Such discussions had been held until September 1. Initially, there were 12 leaders, but we ultimately remained four and we achieved a consensus,” she stated.
The politician expressed her dissatisfaction with the fact that some of the political parties state their pro-unionist position only during election campaigns so as to gain the support of a particular segment of voters. “The Liberal Party is not a unionist party. It does not have this provision in its statutes. The National Liberal Party was the first party that officially became unionist. We opened this way through the Ministry of Justice. A number of unionist parties appealed later. We welcome their appearance, but the struggle for the union must not be conducted in election campaigns only,” stated the aspirant for the office of President of Moldova.
Vitalia Pavlichenko added that the National Liberal Party counts on the European integration, which will lead to the union with Romania, and on the opposite as well. “We treat the EU and Romania equally. But our people haven’t yet woken up after 2009,” she stated.
