The idea of a “European Moldova” Assembly belongs to the people and will be an expression of the people’s wish to be part of the European family, said PAS MP Virgiliu Pâslariuc. According to him, the Republic of Moldova can no longer oscillate between the East and the West and needs to firmly opt for the European integration, while the opposition parties that try to thwart the country’s European course serve the interests of another state, IPN reports.
The MP of the Party of Action and Solidarity noted that by taking part in the “European Moldova” Assembly, the Moldovans will show their wish to be part of the European family and the free world.
“The National Assembly of May 21 is a grassroots idea. The people want to show their support for the pro-European course. It is a democratic expression of the people’s will. We lost this chance in the 1990s – to adopt this course. The then political elites of the Republic of Moldova chose to oscillate between the West and the East, but we see that this solution didn’t work. The state became weaker also due to Russia’s efforts. Russia wants the former colonies to be weak states that cannot defend themselves. That’s why it is important for those who chose the path to the European Union to show their solidarity and on May 21 we should all go and show that we care and that we want to form part of the European Union,” Virgiliu Pâslariuc stated in the program “Reflection Points” on Vocea Basarabiei channel.
According to the government’s representative, the Moldovan parliamentary opposition obeys the Kremlin and wants to contribute to Russians expansion plan.
“In the case of the opposition parties, it is confirmed the idea that we have geopolitical parties. The representatives of these parties ignore the country’s interests and serve the interests of another state. Regrettably, this is their source of legitimacy. The opposition does not have other projects for the present and future of the Republic of Moldova than this imperial project it continues to promote. They support a set of values that are not the values of the European Union and the civilized world,” noted the MP of the ruling party PAS.
The “European Moldova” Assembly will take place in the central square of Chisinau on May 21, on the initiative of President Maia Sandu. The official noted that the Assembly will be an apolitical event, of all the citizens, regardless of their political beliefs, and the people there will say in unison that the integration into the EU is the Republic of Moldova’s sovereign decision.
