In Moldova there are about 35,000 people suffering from viral hepatitis. Hepatitis B and hepatitis C rank third by the number of deaths caused in the country. Most often they cause hepatic cancer and cirrhoses. On World Hepatitis Day marked on July 28, the public associations HEPAVIT and Vitapharm-Com Saturday staged a roundtable meeting entitled “Promotion of a healthy lifestyle and mechanisms for preventing viral hepatitis”, IPN reports.
Viral hepatitis represents a group of infectious diseases caused by viruses that are transmitted by different ways. For Moldova, there are typical the hepatic viruses A, B, C and D that cause viral hepatitis. In 2008 Moldova was among the world leaders by the frequency of deaths caused by hepatic cirrhoses.
Viral hepatitis B can be prevented by a vaccine with the protection rate of 95%. Doctors recommend leading a healthy lifestyle, without alcohol and drugs. The risk groups include persons who have several sexual partners.
The theme of World Hepatitis Day this year is “Hepatitis: Think Again”. This date was instituted in 2010 by a resolution by the World Health Organization in concert with the World Hepatitis Alliance. It aims to raise global awareness of hepatitis that causes numerous victims every year.
