Viorel Morari was discharged from the post of chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. By an order made by the prosecutor general on August 12, the suspension from post was halted and the labor relations with Morari were terminated, IPN reports.
The Prosecutor General’s Office said Viorel Morari didn’t ask for another post of prosecutor that he could occupy after his term in office as head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office expired on April 26, 2021. He is entitled to compensation for the unused annual leave. In case of disagreement with the order, this can be challenged in accordance with the law.
Viorel Morari was first arrested in January 2020, being indicted on three counts – abuse of power, falsification of public documents and interference in investigation. He was later charged also with unjust enrichment and money laundering in especially large amounts by using the position. In January 2021, Morari was arrested again, being accused of abuse of power, falsification of public documents, illegal detention or arrest and intentional holding or an innocent person accountable. Later, he was released under judicial control.
Viorel Morari pleads not guilty.
